2019 Volkswagen Jetta vs 2018 Volkswagen Jetta

Proudly Serving Farmington Hills, MI

The VW Jetta appeals to the mainstream as well as car enthusiasts, thanks in part to its great fuel economy and competent handling. The technology features inside the cabin make for comfortable driving at an affordable price. Whether you’re looking at the 2018 year model or the 2019 year model, the VW is a popular choice.

Performance

The 2018 VW Jetta boasts performance capabilities, due in part to the new 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine power. The Jetta GLI—the sportiest trim—no longer has an available six-speed manual transmission. Besides that change, the 2018 Jetta powertrains are unchanged, which means the performance will also be the same. The 2019 Jetta retains the 2018 model year’s engine, but, for 2019, the Jetta also gets two new gears: in place of the current Jetta generation's six-speed transmission, the new Jetta features an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jetta has also brought back a six-speed manual transmission for 2019.

Appearance

The 2018 VW Jetta features new wheel designs. Specifically, for the S and Wolfsburg trims there are 16-inch rims. The SE Sport and SEL trims feature 17-inch wheels, and the sporty GLI trim gets an 18-inch wheel design. Speaking of sporty, the SEL trim of the 2018 Jetta includes a rear spoiler. And a chrome grille is available on every trim but the SE Sport and GLI. The Wolfsburg trim’s exterior is complete with new fog lights, while the SE Sport shows off with black trim framing the windows and a fierce black grille. The 2019 VW Jetta has been re-designed from the ground up. The exterior has been redesigned for a sleeker, classic style. It’s no longer derived from the Golf; instead, it is now built on the MQB platform—which is used for most VWs. And the interior has even more internal comfort and technology features than before.

Features

The VW Jetta has typically introduced additional comfort features with each generation, and the 2018 Jetta is no different. Heated leatherette front seats with driver lumbar support will make commuting a breeze. And the ride will be fun too, with the SE Sport trim offering sunroof. Gloss-black trim makes an appearance throughout the cabin. The Fender premium audio system is equally impressive. The 2019 Jetta ups the ante with a dynamic BeatsAudio™ audio system. The all-new Jetta is the first-ever VW in the U.S. to offer this BeatsAudio™. Like the 2018 Jetta, the 2019 Jetta includes a sunroof option; however, for the 2019 year model, the sunroof is larger and panoramic. The available power sunroof can be tilted or slid open depending on how much air and light you desire. Another feature unique to the 2019 Jetta is the ambient lighting. The 2019 Jetta is the only Volkswagen to offer 10 different colors you can switch between to adjust the mood inside the cabin with the touch of a button.
