2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vs 2020 Volkswagen Atlas

Serving Farmington Hills, MI

The impressive Volkswagen Atlas made its exciting debut in the 2018 model year, and this midsize crossover model was an immediate hit with drivers in Farmington Hills and beyond. The Atlas Cross Sport is a stand-alone model that was introduced this year, and that has also received well-deserved attention. Many of our customers at Suburban Volkswagen of Farmington Hills are curious about the differences between the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport, and we are eager to help you compare these two models today.

Performance

You can appreciate inspired performance from both vehicles because they share powertrain designs and most mechanical features. The entry-level engine in the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport is a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine mated to an automatic transmission with Tiptronic technology. This powertrain provides 235 horsepower. The alternative is a 3.6-liter, V6 engine that produces 276 horsepower with the same transmission. Additional performance gear in both crossovers includes 4MOTION all-wheel drive, Active Control technology, and Snow Mode. Notably, the Atlas Cross Sport has three other driving modes, and these are On-Road Mode, Off-Road Mode, and Off-Road Custom Mode.

Appearance

The 2020 Atlas lends many of its design cues to the Atlas Cross Sport, but the Atlas Cross Sport has individualized features that immediately differentiate it. The Atlas has three rows of seating with a relatively level roof that carries to the liftgate spoiler. The liftgate has a subtle angle to provide a spacious cargo area. In comparison, the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport has space for five passengers. The roof is lower, and it trends downward slightly as it rolls toward the liftgate spoiler. The liftgate on the Atlas Cross Sport has a sharper angle, and this changes the overall profile of the vehicle. The bar-style grille and the LED exterior lighting at the front and rear of both models are comparable. However, these two crossover SUVs have unique design elements throughout the front bumper.

Features

The Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport for the 2020 model year are outfitted with premium technologies that are increasingly sophisticated as you march up the trim line. Across the two models, you will notice that their equivalent trims carry most of the same gear.
